kicking it: homeless world cup

Kicking It is a documentary narrated by actor Colin Farrell, which showcases the lives of six remarkable homeless men from the far reaches of the world that all possess one unique talent - they’re incredible soccer players.

It’s heartwarming to see six homeless people achieving their dream of playing in a World Cup soccer event - six homeless people off the street is six less, which makes me feel all good inside.

beckham moving to the states

So David Beckham’s done with Real Madrid, and moving to the US to play for Los Angeles Galaxy, in a deal that’s topping $250 million in salary and endoresements.

This is a great move for American soccer - the hype over Freddie Adu died down pretty quickly - so this should inject some spark into the “football fever” over this side of the pond.

Good to see some real talent over here.

krauts out - italians go on to world cup final

In one of the most exciting games to date since the World Cup started, Germany succumb to the superlative soccer prowess belonging to the Italians, losing 2-0 - and the goal scoring action happened in the final 120 seconds of the 2nd half of extra time… what a finish by the people of peppperoni perfection.

Sad to see the Germans go out, I was kinda rooting for them since watching England’s demise last week over a penalty shootout against Portugal. So now it’s down to France and Portugal to battle their semi final game out - I hate to say it, but I hope the Portuguese come out on top - yeah, it’s an English/French thing… [shrugs]

balls with chips, soccer goes high tech

Adidas reports that they are currently testing and developing an “intelligent” soccer ball which they hope will put an end to goal-line controversies. The ball contains a microchip that senses when the ball crosses the goal line. Referees outfitted with earpieces hear a transmitted beep once a ball makes a goal. FIFA, the international football association, tried out the ball in the Under-17 World Championship this year in Peru, and the ball may be used in next year’s World Cup in Germany.

Seems like a lot of effort going into what would be a fallacy here in the States - NOBODY argues with the referee, nobody - if he says it’s in, it’s in - even if it’s blatantly not.

Don’t argue with the guys in black and white stripe, they’ll kill your sorry ass.
