Camden, New Jersey, topped as the country’s worst crime-ridden town in 2004 and 2005, was home to the Sheffield Rock boys on the night of Saturday July 14th - and oh man, did they fucking bring it.
Me and S got to the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront in Camden at around 6pm - well ahead of the start time of 7:30pm. After a couple of Michelob Ultra’s and a warm pretzel in the concession stand area, we made our way to our seats - row X, seats 17 and 18 - smack in the middle of the stage, perfect viewing.
We got chit chatting with a young couple to our left - it was his first concert and her birthday, cute couple, obviously excited.
It was touching 7:35pm when Styx came out and opened the night with some pretty awesome sounds - the crowd went nuts. Now, not being a Styx fan myself, I remained seated whilst most rocked out.
It must have been about 9pm when Styx finally ended (I say finally as I didn’t know any of their shit, to be honest) and the stage hands started to clear the stage, and set up for the Yorkshire lads.
Out of nowhere, at around 9:20pm, out they came… Joe Elliott banged out the first line of “Rocket”, and it was all goosebumps and singing from thereon. By 11:30pm my voice was hoarse, my clothes sweaty, and the arena packed with screaming Def Leppard fans.
This will probably stand as one of the most memorable nights of my life - truly superb.
I recorded “Rocket” for you guys to watch - amazing… enjoy.
