What’s better - working hard, or watching a fricking lemur slowly open its eyes to dramatic music?
I live for this kind of stuff.
I live for this kind of stuff.
I often rent a zip car at the weekend to drive up to Westchester to visit S, and this weekend was like all the others… that was until today when we found a tiny 1″ square ziploc bag, translucent red, with white powder residue still in it. The bag was lodged down the right hand side of the driver’s seat between the console - S spotted it when we were filling up with gas.
Wondering what to do, I figured I’d call Zipcar and let them know what I found, and glean some professional advice. The CSR that answered was a chap called Nailor (sp?), a friendly bloke. There was a long silence when I explained to him that what I believe I found was a used bag of cocaine, or worse still, heroin. He put me on hold for what seemed like 5 minutes (it’s a long time when you’re subject to the same hold music for that amount of time), and returned to advise me that I should simply dispose of said “baggie”, as god forbid I get pulled over and the cops decide to conduct a search of the vehicle.
I took that advice. I didn’t fancy gambling with the chance of spending the night in jail waiting for my arraignment on possession of a controlled substance.
I’ve been a Citibank customer for over 6 years - I remember opening my account with them during the latter part of 2001 in their 23rd Street branch between 7th and 8th Avenues.
As I do most mornings, I logged into my online account to make sure any outstanding Amazon or Verizon Wireless transactions had gone through correctly. Everything was in order except for around $1,500 in unauthorized debits, which included a little under a grand in Sprint Wireless charges, and almost $500 for a JetBlue ticket. For starters, I’ve never owned a Sprint cellphone and have been with Verizon for over 5 years. Additionally, I’d never set foot on a JetBlue flight.
I called the bank, and relayed what I’d found. I have to say, I was expecting less-than-perfect service from Citibank, but they were fast (in canceling my entire card number (something called “collapsing”)), courteous, and highly professional. After about an hour on the phone, I sat thinking what could I have overlooked with regard to how I deal with old bank statements, or the little receipts I stuff in my wallet after paying the restaurant check.
Word to the wise - shred EVERY piece of paper that has your bank account number, credit card details, and anything else that could lead to some thieving shits steal your hard earned dough.
I’ve been told all the money that was stolen will be credited back to my account and a full investigation into what happened, and where the trail leads will begin. I get my new card tomorrow morning.
Such a headache - preventable by disposing of personal and private financial information properly.
There’s little out of “Hollywood” that will stop me in my tracks, but when I heard that Heath fucking Ledger was dead, I must admit, I paused.
The police said Mr. Ledger, 28, was discovered facedown in bed in an apartment at 421 Broome Street in SoHo. Police officials said that a bottle of prescription sleeping pills were found on a nearby night table, but that they did not know whether they played a role in Mr. Ledger’s death.Mr. Ledger, the star of “Brokeback Mountain” and other films, was discovered by a housekeeper and a masseuse, the police said. The housekeeper had been in the apartment for some time before Mr. Ledger’s body was discovered, and she let the masseuse in when she at the apartment for a 3:31 p.m. appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. They said they did not know when Mr. Ledger scheduled the appointment. When Mr. Ledger did not respond to a knock on the bedroom door, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities and moved Mr. Ledger to the floor, the police said.“There was no indication of a disturbance,” Deputy Police Commissioner Paul J. Browne said. He said officers who checked the apartment found other prescription medications it in the bathroom. He said that there was no sign that Mr. Ledger had been drinking and that no illegal drugs were found in the apartment.
I actually spotted Heath at on Clinton Street a little over a year ago, just after he reportedly moved into his new Brooklyn (Boerum Hill) abode with then girlfriend Michelle Willams. This is one of those times I am left scratching my head. Sad loss, for everyone.
Mr. Ledger told The Times last November that his favorite thing to do was hang out at home with his daughter. Leaving her for work, he said, was “kind of like your body has a lump in his throat.”
Heath leaves behind also his daughter Matilda.
Needless to say, I won’t be making a career out of this.
