I got an e-mail from my brother this morning - I usually get about 5 per week from him, consisting of random jokes and humorous tales - this one was different…

Subject: Pass the word
After many cities not wanting to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights. After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver’s license with her face covered. After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told that for PE (Physical Education) he could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa, Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England shirt as it could offend others!
This prompted the editorial below written by a UK citizen.

[Published in a British tabloid newspaper]

Quote:
IMMIGRANTS, NOT BRITONS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on London, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the dust from the attacks has barely settled and the “politically correct” crowd begin complaining about the possibility that our patriotism is offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of London being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britons, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of wars, struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese,Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language! “In God We Trust” is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, Because God is part of our culture. If St. George’s cross offends you, or you don’t like ” A Fair Go”, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don’t care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great British freedom, “THE RIGHT TO LEAVE”. If you aren’t happy here then fuck off! We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted. Pretty easy really, when you think about it.

I couldn’t agree more with this point of view… although rather agressive, it does indeed bring forth the question, “how many of us are feeling like this?”.

I came here in 2001, and found it quite a different place than I thought it would be… arrogant people, nobody says please or thank you, people would sooner step over you than give you the time of day… pissed me off for a good couple of years… then it hit me, this is New York - deal with it, embrace it.

I wish someone over here would speak out like this guy did in England - it’s about time the people of the U.S. fought for their country’s heritage, told those that want the word “God” taken out of the “Pledge Of Allegiance” to get fucked - this is what the country was founded upon - if you don’t like it here, get the fuck out.

Personally, I think we forfeited all rights to a national religion when we slaughtered the original occupants, who were non-Christian and had many Gods, to “found” this country. Additionally, our constitution explicitly calls for separation of church and state. As a Cajun from the Deep South, my ancestors came here, after being thrown out of France and fleeing from Nova Scotia, for the freedom of religion promised. Separation of church and state means no one has to do anything according to anyone’s religion but the one they choose for themselves. I don’t know of any other country that specifically made this an issue in the earliest days of formation. But our founders wanted to ensure that the government would never impose a particular religion or belief on anyone.

As to the Pledge of Allegiance, please note that it was created in 1892 and, after minor changes made through 1924, resulted in this:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America,
and to the Republic for which it stands:
    one Nation indivisible,
With Liberty and Justice for all.

The words “under God” were not added until 1954. The fifties were one of a handful of distasteful periods in the history of our country. While not quite as bad as our slaughter of Native Americans or the interment of and wholesale thievery from Japanese Americans, it was a time of persecution of everything that was considered the least bit “un-American”…including speaking anything but English, which accounts for my not being bilingual in spite of French being my parents’ first language. Sorry, but that’s been a minor peeve of mine for quite some time. McCarthyism probably wasn’t responsible for the addition to the Pledge of Allegiance, but it probably kept non-Godfearing people from making too big of a stink about it.

I completely agree with the article quoted, even the aggressiveness, as pertaining to England. I would probably agree with it as pertaining to virtually every other country in the world. I don’t believe it applies to the U.S. or ever will. The United States needs to strictly separate Church and State, as per the Constitution, and should do it as soon as possible.

There’s always an inner fear amongst patriots, like myself , that denies us from saying how we feel about these “anti-english” people as were all too easily percieved as little Enoch’s.
I love my Country. If you’re from Basra,Ukraine, etc etc and are seeking asylum,i don’t expect you to love England i do however expect a few set down rules.

    1) Don’t whine and fucking whinge if i want to wear my England shirt. It’s my life, my country , so fuck off!!

    2) If Mr Smith your neighbour wants to display his St George’s flag outside his window while England are in a tornaement then let Mr Smith be. Here’s a suggestion. Display your country’s colours or again fuck off!
    3) This one really pisses me off. If the local shopping centre wishes to display a humungous Christmas tree along with a mock up Barn and manger , with kiddies singing we 3 kings and you frown upon this then, yes, you’ve guessed it fuck off!!!!

Since i have lived in Peterborough i have seen many many racial incidents happen. 1 young lad was unfortunate enough to be stabbed to death by a group of asian men. They even bludgeoned his anus with a knife!! The local CUNTstabulary ( spelt correctly in my dictionary. look it up!) decided that this was not racially motivated despite them all heard calling him ” white trash , white honkey, white scum” as they stabbed his defensless body with kinives and other implements. This is just one of many.

What else is left to say except this. I don’t hate anybody because of the colour of their skin or their religion I do however hate racists. It’s about time this country realised that the White Man is not the only agressor.

nice one mate i believ that people that live in this country should embrace where we live. imigrants come here take jobs take money and take houses so if they are still unhappy then i don’t know what we can do. afterall its better than what they could have a shack in the middle of the dessert starving.

As an immigrant who immigrated to London 7 years ago and as a non-English national, I fully agree with of what the author of this article says. As a NON-ENGLISH I am also fed up with the whining and berating of England for being England and not Pakistan, for instance. I came to this country a long time ago and I never had any problems adapting to it and liking it. I also think that if you think the English should change because you came to this country with a different way of life it is a signal that it is time for you to FUCK OFF TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM. However, there is one part of the article that prompted me to say the following and I say this because this sentence ,coming from an English person, smacks as hypocrisy. When did you ever see any English national living abroad who actually bothers to learn the local language? You guys form english-speaking getthoes and don’t make any effort whatsoever to learn the language or the culture. So with regards to that I would say: English people, when you go to live in another country that does not have English as its official language learn the language or else FUCK OFF TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM!

  5. the britblogger Says:

@ Rodrigo - you make a very interesting point pertaining Brits not confirming to another’s country and learning their language. I must say though, English is spoken in almost every country throughout the world, and more often than not English nationals don’t typically have to learn another language because of it.

I must remark on something my brother mentioned in his tirade. It’s not really a fundamental problem when foreign nationals move to other countries and have a hard time with the language, it’s when the traditions and heritage of that country are called into disrepute by those that aren’t even born of said country - England notwithstanding.

Imagine you’re invited to a party with a vegetarian theme - you wouldn’t take a fucking lamb shank. Have the same respect for the country you moved to, and the people that reside their and make it the proud nation it is.

Welcome to multi-culturalism. The only reason for this situation is to deflect from other failings. If this hadn’t occurred, the powers that be would be out on their asses because the real problems would not be obscured by this artificially contrived situation. Instead, they create contending factions to fight amongst each other over otherwise stupid issues. You are being robbed blind by these political con men even as you fight amongst yourselves. The shame of it all is that you let it happen. Welcome to the new world ordure!
